Can you tell us a bit about your business and how you got your start?
I left a large corporate firm 3 years ago. I was tired of the big firm mantra- money, growth, etc… I wanted to create a different kind of firm. One where design and happiness were the drivers. Growth and money are not motivators for me. Great work that changes communities and feeds my soul- that is the firm I wanted to create.
So I did.
How do you think living in the Twin Cities has shaped your style?
I think the Scandinavian culture helps inform and support a culture of design in MSP.
Stylistically I think we have a rich legacy of the Cranbrook mid century masters, but we also have a strong desire to innovate and create a new design language.
How and where do you see growth for your business?
I see our growth in continuing the diversity of our project typologies. We are generalists. We sell innovation through deep investigation. Always looking at it anew.
I think our identity as a small boutique firm is different than the corporate firms in the market. That helps us find clients that are looking for innovation and a different outcome.
If you had one piece of advice for someone starting a business, what would it be?
Understand your value. Identify how you are different within your market and business world. Know your core values and believe them. Don’t waiver, trust yourself and your vision. Define your own path.
Three words to describe your company’s key values.
Passion. Excellence. Innovation.
What is the favorite thing about your workspace?
Its casual and approachable nature. When people come to the office, they immediately are comfortable and feel at home. We want people to come and stay. Hospitality is our mission.

Old RB- Aretha, Michael, & Diana Ross.
One thing you wish you had in your office/studio…
A room with acoustic privacy and a deck.
What are some of your everyday essentials that you can’t live without?
My iPhone, Starbucks Ice Tea and Freddy my naughty puppy.
If you weren’t doing this, what would you be doing?
I would be a tour guide in Italy of renaissance architecture and art. Or I would own a gallery. Or I would teach design.
What is your no-fail, go-to when you need inspiration or to get out of a creative rut?
Traveling and seeing some art.
If you could be a fly on the wall of anyone’s studio/shop whose would it be?
Favorite place to meet in the Twin Cities.

My dream collaboration would be partnering with a destination spa.
