Speaker Sessions

#THECOLLECTIVEMPLS

The Collective is our favorite time of the year. An annual event hosted by LAB that is comprised of curated local businesses and makers. Beyond your typical pop-up – it’s a modern marketplace – an interactive experience to shop local. Sponsored by LAB For Business, a schedule of discussions is led by local business owners sharing their passion, experiences, and artistry. We are thrilled about our lineup this year. Learn more about our Speakers below, and RSVP to their respective sessions.

PERFECTION IS GETTING IN YOUR WAY

Sarah Edwards shares her story in letting go of perfection and embracing the idea of doing as much as she can with current resources, time, and money. There is some magic that happens in that space, a lot of times that means you have to let go of perfection.

Craft has always held a vital place in society, however in today's world and abundance of things, craft has the challenge of not being reduced to simply a consumable object for purchase. We will explore how from design, to making, to selling, crafted objects have the potential to enrich our lives.

IDENTITY & ENTREPRENEURSHIP IN THE NORTH

Have a candid conversation with Eric Dayton as Mollie + Jessica, LAB co-founders, discuss identity and entrepreneurship in the North. Eric’s passion and energy for promoting all things North go beyond making Minnesota more than a flyover state but also where collaboration and celebration has proven successful in the local retail, restaurant and entertainment scene.

Content. I love sharing people’s stories, words and pictures.

Favorite place in Twin Cities to CONNECT

Taprooms and cocktail rooms. They are idea factories. (Just make sure someone is taking notes.)

Dream COLLABORATION

I want to work with a collective of nature photographers on a photojournalism series meant to reconnect people with the environment and highlight why our natural world is worth saving.

Something you COLLECT

Fly-fishing gear. I’m a newbie to the sport so I have been collecting everything I can get my hands on – old and new.

Q&A

Favorite thing to CREATE

Ashley: Fresh dog fashion that strengthens the connection between dog and human.

Ahmed: Watercolor paintings. I had no idea I liked painting/drawing until about a year ago. I guess you CAN teach an old dog new tricks.

Favorite place in Twin Cities to CONNECT

Ashley: Sacred Space! Here you can connect with other deep breath-taking yogis + meditators OR you can reconnect with your own damn soul.

Ahmed: The Minneapolis Bouldering Project. In addition to being a great workout, bouldering offers the opportunity to connect with friends and strangers alike through a shared goal and problem solving. This is another new hobby for me.

Dream COLLABORATION

Ashley: Anthropologie! I always include a lot of whimsical patterns in new product releases. I would love to adorn the neck of free-spirited Anthro dogs in bohemian threads.

Ahmed: Target. I loved going to Target as a kid (and still do) and my first real job was for Target. When I think of brand loyalty, few other brands can compete with Target’s loyal customer base. They continue to reinvent their merchandising strategy and push forward despite the massive (Amazon) challenges they face.

Something you COLLECT

Ashley: Stationary – especially postcards! I’m totally into deltiology, ephemera, and I’m generally sentimental. I pull a lot of inspiration for new product from nostalgia and vintage sentimentality.

Ahmed: Ideas. I love thinking about new ideas and I love hearing great ideas. Nothing makes me feel more inspired.
